Their Zimthörnchen on Saturday is simply scrumptious. If you come at a workday, try their excellent coffee, strawberry cake, or vitello tonnato as a quick bite. The owners are very kind and it's the kind of business that has loyal customers and greet them by their name. It's surrounded by big chain bakeries, though. So if you live nearby, come here and often!

A classic spot in Dortmund I wandered into early in my stay. Their window display was rather attractive and inside was more of the same. Lots of delicious looking chocolates and treats with a vegan option too. I was lucky enough to be helped by someone who spoke excellent English because I speak no German lol. She helped me with my bulk coffee order and other selections. After making my purchase, I went back to the café to enjoy my apple cake and coffee (unfortunately, they didn't have any plant based milk options). The spot seemed pretty popular and I imagine it would be even more crowded during warmer months. Note that the café is cash only (the front store does accept cards).

We bought three sweets from Café Strickmann this morning and they are all very good. If you like chocolate, their chocolate cake with buttercream is excellent. If you like almonds, their Almond flat sweet is ssssoooo good. If you like marzipan, they have a delicious filled pastry with raisins and marzipan. I truly recommend all three. If you are at Hansaplatz, you are practically at their door, so do yourself a favor and pick up a dessert. We went early in the morning, so there was a lot of variety. The ladies were so friendly with one speaking English, so that made us feel more comfortable. The cafè has outdoor seating, a huge indoor seating area and a gift area with nice quality items. Thank you Café Strickmann staff, we hope to come back and try more of your delicious desserts and breads.
